Happy New Year. The Hudson Fulton Champlain Quadricentennial closed at midnight of 31 December, 2009. And what a year it was!
But the Beat Goes On: two Quad Commission Legacy undertakings are heading to fruition in 2010: the plan for ECO-DOCKS ALONG THE HUDSON RIVER, and the multi-faceted CONFERENCE ON THE HUDSON VALLEY’S FUTURE.
With the involvement of many key figures in the Hudson Valley and New York City, and with some early federal, state, private, and foundation support, the promise rises! Last summer and fall there were Community Workshops; soon, as follow-up, there will be Task Forces, digging in to hard questions: about Work, about Infrastructure, about Environmental vulnerability and opportunity and much more–indeed, about How we will live in the Valley.
Much thought has already been given to what is needed and what is hoped for. And now, suddenly, Congressman Hinchey has advanced the bold idea that the Hudson Valley might become a National Park; so ambition everywhere is running high!
Be part of the action, right here on OurHudson.org. Stay tuned; join in; the best is yet to come…! Excelsior.
